Nov. 18th Meeting - Lykins Renewal Plan & Hardesty Project

Thank you to everyone who made it out tonight to the Lykins Neighborhood Meeting. We had a great turnout and are excited about many projects in the works for the betterment of Lykins and surrounding neighborhoods.

UMKC has just finished an extensive 200 page blight study of Lykins and a Lykins renewal and development plan which was presented this evening by Robert Long from CDE. This raises many good questions, tax abatement eligibility, emminent domain concerns, etc.. It obviously comes with pros and cons that we must weigh out. They are asking for our formal support, so we asked them to present tonight because of our many questions. Please take some time to review the Indian Mounds - Lykins Urban Renewal Plan (00162819-6) and feel free to send your questions or concerns about the plan by email to LykinsKC@gmail.com or on the Contact Us page.

Jim Turner from Hardesty Renaissance also presented this evening on a plan for the development of the abandoned former Federal Complex site at Hardesty and Independence Ave. into a sustainable economic asset that benefits community which could possibly include a locally-grown food hub, local community space, and many other great possibilities. There is a public hearing for the project on December 3rd, 2013; time is TBA. Mr. Turner also extended an invitation to the neighborhood to attend the Ground-breaking Ceremony on December 10, 2013 at 12:00pm. Word is there will be food and music!

There is no better way to become aware and to voice your questions and opinions then to join us for the Lykins Neighborhood Association meeting every 3rd Monday from 7:00-8:00 pm at Eleos Coffee House at 3401 E Independence Ave, Kansas City, MO 64127. And in case you weren’t already aware, there’s Free Coffee and tonight’s Door Prize was a $20 gift certificate to Elvira’s Pasteleria on Independence Ave. I wonder what it will be next month?!?!

Be sure to invite your neighbors!!

Soon to demolish carwash on 9th St: Thanks to Lykins Neighbors!

Way to go Lykins!!! The Squeaky Wheel is getting greased.

The Carwash on 9th street has had years of illegal dumping and drug sales. We just got word it may be making its way to the chopping block. Your telephone calls on this long time issue are paying off. Finally this issue may be taken care of. Thank you Lykins! Keep it up!
