Drive by the soon-to be pocket park at 8th and Norton! Great Feb cleanup day!
WOW! Thanks to everyone who came out for the clean-up this afternoon. We filled three dumpsters to the brim with trash and used 20+ volunteers to clear the vacant lot at 8th & Norton of trash, undergrowth and dead branches. That work filled another dumpster.
On top of all that, we cleared 22 dump sites in the neighborhood.
If you want to participate in a focus group to talk about ideas for making this lot into a quiet pocket park for the Lykins residents, let us know!
Many many thanks to the awesome people from Heartland Conservation Alliance for helping us make this happen. Check out these photos from the HCA!
Land Bank Grants Lykins 8 Properties
See the properties in Green? The big one is the Park, of course. But the others are parcels that were given to rehabbers and developers as part of the Lykins Focused Development Project. 4 will be for Habitat for Humanity, 3 for Catholic Charities, and one will be a pocket park (the one south of the Park. Stay tuned!

Can't wait to see this
SOOOO, this house was designated the Lykins Neighborhood's "bad" house of the month in August. Now, it's being cared for and redone inside and out by one of Lykins' cool rehabbers. Maybe it will be the House of the Month sometime soon! And even better, it will be a home for a family that deserves this cute place to call their own!
New times for Lykins Square Park
Keep your eyes in the park! The Neighborhood Association, with the incredible talent of Eco-Abet, a talented group of architects, landscape designers and urban planners, worked together to create a new master plan for our park! It will take a while to get things going, but we expect more shade trees, picnic tables and grills, and we have requested funds for a new walking path, a walk that connects Norton, new soccer fields and playground equipment for older children . . And new cameras that will help us keep our eyes in the park to keep things safer.
Adios Graffiti
Last Saturday, August 24, the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions volunteered their time to help the Lykins Neighborhood Association cover all kinds of nasty graffiti in the Neighborhood! Thank you very much to all!
